AFAANZ 2025 Conference 6 July - 8 July 2025
Sofitel Brisbane Central, Queensland, Australia Call for Papers
AFAANZ is devoted to a broad spectrum of accounting and finance research, and we welcome innovative research approaches as well as those that are well established. Papers are invited in the broad areas of accounting, auditing, corporate governance, corporate social responsibility, education, finance, management accounting, tax, and other related fields. Best paper awards and outstanding reviewer awards will be presented at the conference. All papers at this year’s conference will be subject to blind peer review. AFAANZ encourages new and developing researchers to attend the conference. We will again extend a discount to full-time higher degree research students.
AFAANZ 2025 will be held face-to-face at the Sofitel Brisbane Central in Queensland, Australia. The two plenary speakers at the conference will be: -

Guidelines for Submission

Papers will only be considered if at least one author is an individual member of AFAANZ, with members enjoying a reduced registration fee for the conference. To become a member of AFAANZ, please go to https://www.afaanz.org/membership. Submission Date
Papers must be submitted by Friday, 7 February 2025, 5pm Australian Eastern Daylight Time. Late submissions will NOT be accepted. Notification Email notification of the outcome and review feedback of submissions is expected to be sent to the submitting author in April 2025. AFAANZ Doctoral Symposium – Nominations Now Open AFAANZ is proud to announce nominations are now being called for its annual Doctoral Symposium from students undertaking a PhD program at Institutional member Schools and Departments. This year's Doctoral Symposium is being held from Wednesday 2 July to Friday 4 July 2025 at the Sofitel Hotel Brisbane, prior to the commencement of the AFAANZ conference.
All details are provided in the Nomination Form which has also been sent to Heads of AFAANZ Institutional Member Schools/Departments. The final date to nominate a student to attend this year’s Symposium is 28 February 2025. |
AFAANZ AWARDS AFAANZ - Best PhD Award
The Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand seeks to advance accounting and finance research by recognising and rewarding outstanding work of early career researchers. The Best PhD Award is being awarded each year to recognise the student of an outstanding accounting/finance PhD completed during the previous calendar year.

Webinar: Informal Institutions in Accounting Research – A Panel Session Mar. 07, 2025, 1:00 pm US Eastern
The objective of this panel session is to explore the effects of informal institutions and their interaction with formal institutions on accounting practices around the world. Informal institutions are unwritten social norms, customs, or traditions that shape thought and behavior (North, 1990, as cited in Leventis et al., 2024). Bringing panelists from three different institutional settings together, this session is expected to review existing research in the area and identify future research opportunities.
